Procurement
- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has compiled useful resources on green purchasing.
- All governmental entities within the State of Montana and all registered Cooperative Purchasing Organizations can purchase computer equipment off the state contract. All desktops, laptops, and computer monitors provided under state contracts are required to meet bronze level requirements as specified by EPEAT, an environmentally preferable purchasing program.
Operations and Maintenance
- The State’s 20 x 10 Initiative, announced in November 2007, aims to reduce energy consumption by state agencies by 20% by the year 2010. Additional information on the 20 X 10 program is available to state agencies on the state intranet system.
End of Life Management
- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality maintains a Web page on electronics recycling.
- State agency personnel can contact Sandra Boggs (see contact information above) with questions about recycling/disposing of equipment.
- The Surplus and Discounts for Schools program collects computer equipment from state and federal sources as well as private donations. The equipment is stored in a warehouse in Helena and distributed to Montana public K-12 schools at no cost to the schools.
